Further to a HSA/First Aid training day attended by Belmont Montessori staff at the weekend, we regret to inform parents that grapes will not be permitted to be sent in with your child's snack anymore unless they are halved and peeled.
Yes you read that correctly, if a parent decides to send in grapes with their child's lunch they must be halved and peeled.
We are sorry to impose such restrictions as grapes are a healthy snack, but these recommendations come from the Health & Safety Authority and for your child's safety we must abide by their recommendations. Apparently it is quite easy for the skin of the grape to stick to a child's throat.
As we know, you as parents have little time as it is, never mind peeling the skin off grapes, so it may be better for your child to have their grapes at home!
Apologies for the inconvenience.
PS Under no circumstances send in peanut butter nut or Chocolate-containing foods as we have some children attending with severe allergies which could easily be triggered by contact with such foods. This includes snacks such as 'muller corners' with chocolate flakes/balls, chocolate rice cakes, chocolate spread
