Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Welcome back, for the start of term 2. Let’s hope the weather will soon improve, it has been a long winter. Now we say good bye to winter and hello to spring. Thank you all for lovely Christmas gifts cards and good wishes.
We have been busy with art/craft activities, Our snowman and St Bridget’s cross have gone home. We have talked about the life of St Bridget and the wonderful work she did, the children can tell you the story. The Chinese lantern is ready to go home and the children have coloured a snake to honour the Chinese New Year of the Snake. Pancake faces have been made in preparation for Shrove Tuesday, and children learned what a ‘face’, nose mouth eyes are etc..
In number work, many have completed 1 to 10, others are enjoying the spindle box , while many of the seniors are moving onto the more abstract level building the number cards and counters and number games.
Practical life exercises and Sensorial exercises continue to be explored and expanded.
We have been working on the phonics a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h and applying them to objects. The children are making good progress in writing numbers and sounds.
Stories we read included ‘Foxes in the Snow’, ‘Jack Frost’, ‘Sam’s Snowflakes’, ‘Polar Bear & the Snow Cloud’, ‘Say Hello to the Snowy Animals’, ‘Bella gets her Skates on’.
Some housekeeping notes: If you could please write your child’s name on their belongings, such as coat, hand towel. Please send in a hand-towel each day. As you will have heard in the news the flu season is still around. We encourage children to wash their hands after they change their shoes, paint, visit the toilet, and before snack. The teachers wash their hands throughout the day. With regard to snack, please refer to your handbook. Chocolate/chocolate spread, peanut butter, nuts, are not permitted. Suitable lunch items include a small sandwich, small yogurt, piece of cheese, and a portion of fruit which is peeled and cut up in a container. A drink bottle is better than a carton, as the child may not be able to finish all of it. Should you not have something suitable, we can provide your child with a snack on the day.
If you have any old Christmas cards we will be happy to get them as they are excellent for the children to use for cutting.
Our parents night will take place towards end of February, we will update you later in the month.
We will have our parent /teacher meeting on March 28. Last school day of 2 term is Spy Wednesday 27 March. We are not taking a mid-term break in February.
We welcome our students on work experience, you will meet them on different days, Rose will be leaving us later this month, we thank her for all her help over the past few weeks. Sarah a second year student from Sligo IT will be with us until after Easter and Sharon and Ruth TY students will be with us every Friday for the next few months.
